Kindergarten is a year of great growth and development! We strive to help each student grow in self-confidence, socialization, awareness of the world and respect for others in a Christ-centered environment. We offer all-day kindergarten specifically structured for the learning needs of our young students at St. John the Baptist!

Our kindergarteners learn the importance of faith through stories, activities, Scripture, prayer, discussion, and reflections. St. John's core values are discussed and integrated not only in Religion, but in all learning. Additionally, our students learn to understand the teachings of the Church, participate in Mass, appreciate a variety of prayer forms, and engage in service projects. We love expanding our kindergarteners' faith!

Academics

In kindergarten, we develop language arts, math, science and social studies skills. To create life-long reading skills, we utilize alphabetic principles and phonemic reasoning. Math is focused on counting, addition and subtraction, measurement and shapes. In science, kindergarteners explore life science, physical science, earth science and technology, with an appreciation for God's Creation and the good of society. In social studies, students prepare for their role as good citizens of our community! All kindergarteners have their own Chromebook for educational use, and Smartboards are used in the classroom. All lessons are faith-filled and emphasize our core values at St. John's.

Throughout the kindergartener's week at St. John's, we make sure that our students are well-rounded beyond the standard curriculum. We offer Spanish, music, art, physical education and technology classes to achieve this goal. Creativity and motor skills are important for learning! Additionally, our kindergarteners are part of Faith Families, which are a mixed age group (PS-8^th grade) that experience faith activities together. Lastly, our students are all part of the Buddy Program, which pairs students with a "buddy" from another class to do special projects and learn together.
